The magnitude 5.4 event occurred 7 km (4 miles) SE of Diamond Bar, CA.
The epicenter was a measly 12 miles from our house, yes, that is very very close. Especially since the motion of the earthquake went right in our direction. Fun times.
For those of you who called to check on us, thank you thank you! I think my heart rate is finally going down. Yes, my fear of earthquakes is very very real. If you think I being dramatic, ask Trenton. I just want to share a very sweet story of Truston who was my little hero until Daddy got home.
Tuesday was such a typical day....ok, not really. Kaden had woken up during the night with one of his insanely high temperatures, we didn't even bother taking it because it was probably around the 104 range....anyways, Tuesday morning I was taking care of Kaden on the couch when I thought there was either a very loud car driving by or perhaps a large train? (We're close to the train tracks but never feel them but we do feel the big pickup truck's vibrations or the garbage trucks vibrations) and as I was getting up to check it felt like our house was hit by a train and it knocked me over and after a moment I realized that it was an earthquake. The closest place I could get the kids was the front door jam. I got the door open and Truston stood right where I asked him to but Kaden was hard to get up because he was so lethargic, finally, I got him into place which was very difficult considering the ground was shaking so bad. Taryn was upstairs in her crib and trying to climb the stairs was so hard with all the shaking and by the time I got to the top, the earthquake had stopped. Taryn slept through it even though her crib had moved. I went back downstairs and Kaden was already back on the couch. I brought Truston back inside from being under the doorframe and closed the door and then I collapsed into a fit of hysterics. Really, I am rather ashamed of the way I was carrying on but I could not help it. Truston kept bringing me blankets because I was shaking so bad (he thought I was cold), he kept asking me to stop crying so loud (I think I was close to the scream hysterical cry) he brought me the phone when Trenton called, I could barely talk to him so I handed the phone back to Truston who just held me and kept telling me to breathe (he's four years old and telling his mother to calm down and breathe!)He stayed put until Daddy came in and took over. It was all I could do not to demand to go home right that moment, actually, come to think of it, I think I did demand to go home, so the question is why am I still here? Hmmmmmmm. Anyways, that's my little hero, my brave boy who took care of his mommy! Oh, the best part is after I calmed down which took rather a long time, I told Truston thank you for his help and he said, "that's ok Mommy, we all get a little scared sometimes."
What a trooper.
